ACREDITAR HOUSES
Acreditar Houses host families of children and young people with cancer who need to leave their hometowns to receive treatment in one of these cities: Porto, Coimbra, or Lisbon. Without these houses, many families would face frequent and long journeys, unnecessary hospital stays, or accommodation in inadequate conditions.
Located next to the hospitals, Acreditar Houses offer accommodation, opportunities for family reorganization, and normalization of daily life. They are designed so that families can structure their lives as harmoniously as possible in the face of a new reality. Families are encouraged to welcome relatives and friends and maintain their daily routines, such as cooking, doing laundry, or shopping. The possibility of maintaining normalcy in their lives is crucial for coping with long absences from home and for fostering a spirit of mutual support and emotional care among the families staying at the Houses.
The stay, whose duration depends on medical recommendation, is free of charge, with families referred by the hospital Social Services.
Using the Social Return on Investment (SROI) methodology, Acreditar evaluated the impact of investment in the Houses. An SROI ratio of 1:€3.49 was determined, meaning that for every €1 invested, €3.49 in benefits are generated.

Porto House
Opened in 2017, it has 16 rooms. Main origins: Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, and Cape Verde.
Lisboa House
Opened in 2003 with 12 rooms and expanded to 32 rooms in 2023. The main places of origin are: Faro, Madeira and Azores .
Coimbra House
Opened in 2010, it has 20 rooms. Main origins: Viseu, Castelo Branco, and the Azores.

For every euro donated, you receive a 40% tax deduction, up to a limit of 8/1000 of your turnover (Art. 62, nº3 and 4, letter b) of the Tax Benefits Statute.
PROBLEM
With treatments only available in Lisbon, Coimbra, and Porto, families living far away must travel with their sick child, often without accommodation or a support network.
RESPONSE
Acreditar has a House near the hospitals in each of these cities, where families can stay free of charge during the child’s or young person’s treatment. Here they find safety, comfort, and connection with others experiencing the same situation.
