Acreditar Houses

Casa Acreditar homes exist in Lisbon, Coimbra, and Porto to accommodate families of children and young people with cancer who have to leave their hometowns to undergo treatment in one of these cities.

If this is your case, here you will find comfort and security. And a second family!

Who can stay at Casa Acreditar?

Children and young people diagnosed with cancer up to the age of 25, who live far from the hospital where their treatment is carried out, accompanied by their caregivers and other family members.

The houses in Coimbra and Porto can also accommodate families of children and young people with other medical conditions up to the age of 18.

What do I need to do to reserve a room?

Contact the Social Work Service at the hospital where your son or daughter is being treated and request accommodation at Casa Acreditar – Lisbon, Coimbra, or Porto.

What is the house like?

You will find a welcoming, safe, and peaceful space where your family can organise life much like you do at home: enjoying your privacy, preparing your own meals, setting your own schedules and routines, doing your laundry, and taking care of the spaces. The houses have internet access.

You will have a private room, fully equipped with bed linen and towels, and with a private bathroom.

You will also have several shared spaces with the other families, where interaction and mutual support take place and serve as pillars of support for this experience:

  • A fully equipped kitchen: stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, a pantry for groceries, and all the necessary utensils for cooking, eating, and storing your food;
  • Dining room;
  • Laundry room with washing and drying machines, a drying rack, and an iron;
  • Living and social rooms for children, teenagers, and parents (with television, toys, books, and games for all ages).
Is the house close to the hospital?

The three Casa Acreditar homes are located very close to the hospitals where treatments take place, allowing you to walk there and back in just a few minutes.

Are meals included?

No, food is not included. Groceries are bought and prepared by the families themselves, who can cook the meals they like most.

Who does the laundry?

Just like with meals, each family is also responsible for washing and drying their own clothes.

What do we then need to bring?

Clothing and personal hygiene items.

How long can we stay in the house?

Families can stay in the house for the entire duration of their children’s treatment (monthly renewal is required, supported by the hospital’s social services, but this process is handled by Acreditar and those services).

How many members of our family can live in the house?

It depends from house to house and also on the rooms available at the time, but the houses have rooms that accommodate between 2 and 4 people.

Can we receive visitors?

Of course, yes. You can receive as many visits as you like from your friends and family.

Do we have to pay anything?

No, staying at Acreditar Houses is free for all families.
