ACREDITAR continues its work of providing information, raising awareness, and advocating with the relevant authorities and policymakers to ensure that the debate on the rights of children and young people with cancer and their families remains a priority. The goal is to ensure that illness is never a barrier to full citizenship.
A cancer diagnosis in a child or young person brings about radical changes for a family. Portuguese legislation provides certain rights and special support measures that address these new needs, experienced both by patients and their families: labor rights, social support, education, access to higher education, and tools that may offer benefits, such as the multi-purpose medical certificate. ACREDITAR offers a legal support service – the Legal Clinic – designed to clarify doubts and assist families in situations related to these issues.
